Your Board of Directors recently received the following letter from a CSC Member.  This letter addresses several issues that the Board has been trying to grapple with recently.  This member’s letter made several good points in a clear, concise and straightforward manner.  The Board decided this letter was well worth publishing in its entirety in this month’s newsletter.  There are excellent thoughts presented here that we all should read, review and ponder from time to time.  Please take the time and opportunity to read this carefully and hopefully we can strive to make CSC an even better Sportsmen’s Club.

Club Members

The season is once again upon us, and with good weather, all of the ranges will be in use for sighting-in new guns, proofing new loads, and just good plain shooting fun!

However, with the elevated activities on all of the ranges, we should be reminded that it requires some personal range etiquette from individuals and groups using these ranges every day.  Each individual range has posted rules for that particular range.  Read and understand that range’s set of rules.

First and foremost on every range is that every individual, WHETHER PARTICIPATING OR JUST OBSERVING, must wear safety glasses and hearing protection.  It is the responsibility of all members to enforce this.  If someone doesn’t comply, ask them to leave and don’t resume shooting until they leave the range or comply.  As a member of CSC it’s your individual responsibility to protect the integrity and possible liability of YOUR CLUB.

NEVER SHOOT TO GROUND!  Bullets don’t bury themselves, they BOUNCE over berms and backstops.  Place your targets in front of the backstop, not on top.  When you’re done shooting, retrieve your targets and put them in or by the trash barrel for that range.

Whenever you are on the grounds, pick-up your SHOTGUN HULLS, the plastic will never break down or corrode as brass and steel casings will.  Again, put them in the trash barrels on that range.

We pattern shotgun loads, not assess their destructive ability on plywood.  If you want to do that, fine, but bring, prop-up, and destroy your own plywood.  And again, put it by the trash barrels when you’re done.

DON’T SHOOT THE SUPPORT POLES FOR THE TARGET STANDS!  Place your targets so the bullets don’t hit the poles.

When you’re done on the benches, place the seats on top of the carpet to help hold it on the bench in the wind and rain.  It might stay a little dryer for next time.

This is a SHOOTING RANGE, not the local dump that most law abiding shooters are forced to hang out at.

As a member of the CSC you’re part of one of the finest shooting facilities in Middle America!  Let’s make it even better.

We’re all in this together, and with a little thought and consideration we’ll continue to enjoy what so many would like to take away!!!
